It’s all about home, building and making home!

We all need home, home is more than just a roof over our heads, home is where we make our mark, a private space in which we nest, where we can be ourselves, we paint, decorate, renovate, fix, build, style and make cozy until we’re satisfied. We create a haven, a sanctuary, to rest, play and more often now, work. We learn about life and relationships from home, find our identity there with family, friends and pets. You may never have had your own home or been able to invest in home the way we’d like to, or home may not have been the best place or experience for you. The Small House Project could be your opportunity for building your dream home which one day could become a reality… Try dreaming your dreams by creatively engaging in The Small House Project, an opportunity to take part in a short course using your hands and imagination, enjoying the experience as you try out ideas in designing and creating a small home.

The Small House Project is a fun, creative and engaging short course, it will also give you the opportunity to build up your confidence, as well as being a creative opportunity for learning.

This practical course is designed for individuals to get creative in talking about and thinking about their ideal home. Designed to engage men, women and families. Participants usually take part in group sessions of six, though due to Covid restrictions we are rolling this project out to you in your own home. You will be given a blank, white washed, red roofed, open fronted, small house and all the tools and equipment needed to design and build on a small scale.

We will connect online in a group to deliver this course to you. If you need a computer to work with, we can provide a tablet for the duration of the course.

We’ll explore house renovation/interior design.Participants will be guided through the art of design, looking together at other peoples home design, what styles of furniture, furnishings and fittings you might like both past and present to start to fire up your imagination. You’ll set up your home using practical and creative ideas to build up your skills on a small scale. You’ll learn and enhance your skills in painting and decorating, sewing, upholstering, building flat pack furniture, doing wood finishing, varnishing, and go as far as small electrical work, roofing and bricklaying if so desired. Your house is your home to take it as far as you like, to style it just the way you like it.

After completing the course, you’ll want to keep your small house, now completed to your design, through the investment of your creativity and imagination. This is fine as long as you’re willing to construct a new small house and work with our wood workshop expert, continuing by building another small house available for the next person to start their own Small House Project. Otherwise we will repurpose your house for the next person, recycling is always a good idea.

There is opportunity to graduate onto further, related certificate’s in education through this course.

The Small House Project could be the beginning of the next stages of your learning on bigger building, decorating, furniture, woodwork, upholstery and many other design courses.
